Autumn in high country. Mt.Baker, Northwest WA.

Last Sunday it was beautiful warm sunny day, great for hiking in mountains. Views were amazing.

Bright colors of wild blueberry bushes:

And here are blueberries themself, covering ground like a thick carpet. Fortunate for us there was no bears around so all blueberries were just for us alone.:

Mt.Baker itself apparently was not having a good time, as you see it has a pretty dramatic cloud with lots of wind on the top:

I took photo of these two nervous cute birds while traveling in New Zealand.

This painting is submitted for DPW "Birdbrain" challenge. Painted with acrylic on canvas glued on masonite board. This is my 4th challenge painting.

This is my entry for Daily Paintworks challenge. It was fun and hard to capture lots of reflection on the light bulb. I tried to make it more happy and colorful. Painting is done with acrylic on canvas glued to masonite board and finished in protective polymer varnish.

Autumn leaves. Challenge painting for DPW.

Here it is - little treasuries of the fall. It actually was hard to choose just three, every little dry curly leaf is so different. As it was suggested in the challenge I left some bright magenta streaks of underpainting shine through blue background.

Painting is made with acrylic paint on canvas glued to masonite board and measures 11x7.5 inches. It's available for sale on AUCTION this week on Daily Paintworks.

Lava flow, Central Oregon.

In a middle of this August we went on a trip through Cascades in Central Oregon. It included Lava Flow around McKenzie Pass, few camping stops near lakes in Deschutes National Forest, just south from Bend, Oregon, and beautiful Crater lake. Our trip to lava flow we started at Dee Wright Observatory which was built during Great Depression by a Civilian Conservation Corps crew at Camp Belknap with lava stone found at the construction site:

It seems like thousand volcanoes were erupting here constantly for the last 2 million years, creating this Moonlike landscape:

Swirl, abstract acrylic painting.

This painting is improvisation on science fiction theme. I thought about an alien planet with whirlpool in a strange forest. I painted it with acrylic and used a pallet knife to create those alien "trees". Painted on canvas, glued to masonite board, and covered with protective UV varnish.

Oregon coast in August

As expected it was foggy, but still beautiful. Cannon beach rocks in a middle of a day:

In the afternoon fog seems lifted:

And at sunset the sun completely went into dark foggy cloud. Temperature dropped to 50s, but after 102F on the East of the coastal mountain range it was somewhat refreshing.

Painting space.

I always loved space - stars, galaxies, planets. They are fascinating. I even took an astronomy course in University, but quickly figured that I love to look at all this, but not really study. Some time ago I took photos of flowers in a beautiful friend's garden. After playing with one of the photographs in Photoshop, I came up with an image, which looks like painted on highly textured canvas:

Driving on back roads in Pacific Northwest.

I live in a beautiful mountain country in Northwest Washington. It's so much fun to drive on forest service roads, taking pictures and doing sketches, and of course hiking around. Here are photos from today's trip near Mt.Baker.

Spring is coming, and tulip season is too!

Inspite of cold weather (with snow even) here in North West Washington state, spring is not delaying. Cherry trees is promptly starting to bloom, daffodils already a few inches tall, and soon will be Tulip Festival time!
