Driftwood and Sunset paintings.

Click to buy

While living in Juneau, Alaska I spotted this interesting driftwood tree on Douglas island and made a pencil sketch of it. And a couple of days ago I made a small painting (just discovered that Georgia O'Keefe's Blue II looks somewhat similar, but much bigger size. Nice to have some similarities with famous. LOL ). So here it is, Driftwood,  9x12 inches, acrylic on canvas panel:

Another painting I did yesterday also has Alaskan origin - Sunset in Juneau, Alaska. It looks almost tropical, so bright colors.
9x12 inches, painted on canvas panel with acrylic, varnished.

Green Island Lighthouse.

We pass this island on Alaska ferry ship in the evening. I was already sitting on my bed - cot on a upper deck of ferry ship Columbia, when suddenly I saw that beautiful view. It was too unexpected and a little bit too dark to take a photo so I just sketched it really quick and made the acrylic painting at home.

I found that this is amazing lighthouse (actually it's called lightstation) with lightkeeper family live there all year around.
There is a wonderful post about the lighthouse, it's history and people in Eva Lazarus blog. That's how she describe it:
"Green Island, likely named because it’s not, is a rocky wasteland 25 miles north of Prince Rupert, eight miles from the Alaska border and the most northern lighthouse in the province. No trees grow on this lump of ice in winter, where 50 knot winds constitute a light breeze and last for weeks."

The painting is made on stretched canvas, sized 8x24 inches, covered with protective UV acrylic varnish.
